netgear wgt624 woes

It seems x64 really doesnt like this piece of hardware at all. The Atheros drivers which some suggest are compatible dont work with the wgt 624. Even after a firmware update. Have tried pretty much all the suggested Atheros drivers to no avail. Wont take up your time on this any more because I cannot offer a solution, but will be "listening" on the side in case of some new and enlightening piece of info crops up. Good luck with you all.

I'm not sure what you are having trouble with. But, Microsoft just released an update that is suppose to fix connectivity issues with some routers.

Yes, I got the download by bypassing the router and hooking into the internet via my broadband modem. I can get online okay that way, but the minute I hook up the router things go belly up. No internet, yet the local network shows up. I am not really complaining, as the puter I am using it on has a functioning system (XP with the wireless router) and vista 64 on a separate hard drive as a dual boot. The frustrating thing is; Vista looks so darn cool I wanna get right into it and transfer all the stuff over, yet knowing its a beta, one hesitates.....

I'm by far no expert, but I'll toss an idea in. Could this have something to do with a firewall setting in Vista? Or perhaps something to do with the WEP/WAP settings of the router? Also, something I read in another post, you have to name each computer something different, so, if you called the computer "Fred" in XP you would have to call it "Franz" in Vista, for instance. I don't know if this helps you, but it may get you pointed in the right direction.
And I am also having a very good experience with Vista in a few different scenarios but I surely would not migrate to a Beta O/S. No one to blame if it all goes south!

Thanks Mark. It appears as if I had a conflicting IP address. Altered that and was able to access router's settings. However, that was all it could do. Disabling the firewall (and also the router's firewall for the purposes of testing) made no apparent difference. Changing the name of the puter is worth a try? I am reluctant to change too many settings on the router as it works beautifully with all the other pcs we have @ home (on XP)

Thanks Mark. Found an IP conflict which enabled me to access the router once changed. Disabling security features made no apparent difference. Still yet to try name change.

Well. Perhaps Microsoft's recent update got things crankin', but the net is up and all is happy and gay here. Here are a few other things I tried: updating the antivirus (while using the modem, not router- because, as I said earlier, the router was the problem - and told the security panel to stop monitoring it.) - this could be linked to the suggestions that many made about trying to disable windows firewall? I also successfully managed to update my marvel -yukon network drivers (for my 8AN SLI mobo) whilst online as well. Whether this did anything, I am not sure. Also updated the nVidia nforce driver, but that is probably irrelelvant. Hope some of this helps others?

Hey, Jeff. Well, I am still using the wpa encryption on the firewall from the router, even tho had heard disabling that stuff helped, but no need. Some suggest disabling windows firewall but it is working fine a.f.a.i.k. currently running their Trend antivirus suggestion because the one I used to use (AVG) went belly up. So far the glue is sticking.

Hi Jeff. Initially when the update came along, nothing appeared to change. At that point, resulting from total frustration, I reinstalled the software and then ran the new updates with modem attached. I also allowed m/soft to search for the latest network drivers for the marvell yukon on board device, which it found, but whether that changed things, am not sure. Shortly after reinstalling and adding new updates, the network "came on." Sorry cannot be more specific than that. It kinda just happened...

Well, I can say the recent updates actually made no difference to the detection of the router as I have since had to reinstall vista 64. This is the third time in a couple of weeks. Got some nasty thing called ieuser.exe that sticks its head up now and internet explorer completely refuses to work. Maybe Firefox could market the file? Bit of payback goes a long way. I digress. Sadly, no internet yet:mad:
